Wow… hospitals suck

Sorry about the lack of updates. My wife had to have her gallbladder out close to three weeks ago (not long after the last update) and things are only just now getting back to something approaching normal. The katana project is on indefinite hold because of some weird bugs in Blender 2.5 that I can’t get around no matter how hard I try (that’s what I get for using alpha software, I know) but something new will get started soon, I promise. Sorry for leaving everyone hanging, but just know that everything is back to normal-ish now. I think I’m going to work on some level design stuff next, maybe the interior of a home or something. See you next update!

P.S. Dragon Quest IX is GOOD! :D

Tutorials are kinda fun…

So, here we are with an update on the Project-a-Week. Nearly finished here, with only texturing and normal mapping left. I have to say, this is turning out to look quite good, and be fun to write up as well. I hope that the tutorial is as good for you guys as it is for me to write. Its amazing how helpful its been for me to just break down what I’m doing into discrete steps. I may turn all my major projects into tutorials. Or maybe not, since this is taking at least twice as long this way.

Anyway, enjoy the screens! Let me know what you think!

Project-a-Week 1

So, here we are with my first ever Project-a-Week post. I plan on doing one project a week (give or take) for the foreseeable future in order to both fill in my portfolio and to give me something to keep my skills sharp. The subject of the project will be ever changing (although they will likely all focus on a few long term projects I have going), but they will all be complete projects, from modeling (or sculpting) up to rigging (when it makes sense). Its a tall order, but it seems a great way to get ready for a real job.

With no further ado, I give you my first project: a katana. Yea, not much, but to sweeten the pot, I’m also making this one a tutorial so you can follow along! This is where I am at the moment:

From here I move on to UVs (which are not really exciting) to scultping (to create a normal map) and finally I put them all together. Keep posted!
